The Portrait of John Wesley

John Wesley (1703-1791) was founder of the Methodist Church.
His teachings revolutionized Church, Government, and social culture.

These pictures are a progression from the begining drawings to the unveiling.
The Portrait was painted for the entry to
Wesley Academy
of the First United Methodist Church
Houston Texas

Linda Isgitt, Board of Directors President for Wesley Academy, and Valentene at the unveiling of the portrait.

An early drawing for the portrait,
with my friend Ron Gordon as the model.

Another early drawing, this time with a different model.

There were three models before the project was complete.

The panel is primed with gesso

Here is the final drawing on the panel .

The paint is now applied to the panel,
underpainting and background first.

There goes the veil !

Finally after months of planning , drawing,
and painting,
the John Wesley portrait is finished and is ready for the unveiling at Wesley Academy

Next the painting is installed
for all to see and enjoy.
